Lake Sevan - Sevanavank Monastery - Haghartsin Monastery - Goshavank Monastery

Duration։ 5-6 hours

During this journey, you will discover the magnificent blue Lake Sevan.
Just about an hour’s drive from Yerevan, Sevan is located 1,900 meters above sea level, surrounded by impressive mountain ranges.

You will also visit Sevanavank Monastery, founded in the 9th century by Princess Mariam in memory of her husband. The complex is home to one of Armenia’s most remarkable khachkars – the “Amenaprkich” (All-Savior), one of only thirteen rare cross-stones in the world that depict Christ.

Continuing northward, you will be enchanted by Armenia’s lush landscapes. Passing through the town of Dilijan, you will stop at Goshavank Monastery, located in the heart of Gosh village. The monastery is named after the great Armenian thinker and scholar Mkhitar Gosh, author of numerous works, who compiled the first Armenian legal code known as the “Book of Law.” His legacy reached not only Armenia but also Cilician Armenia. Mkhitar Gosh himself is buried near the church he built in 1188. Here you will also admire Master Poghos’s famous “embroidered” khachkar, considered one of the most exquisite in Armenia.

Your final stop will be at Haghartsin Monastery, which will take you back to the 10th–14th centuries. The name Haghartsin translates as “Dance of the Eagles.” This fairy-tale site feels completely detached from reality. The refectory of Haghartsin is one of the largest in Armenian ecclesiastical architecture and was regarded as a bold innovation of its time. Why? You’ll understand the moment you see it – some things are better experienced than explained.
